Brotherhood of Grand Lodges and Grand Chapters

First Annual Earth Day Celebration May 2, 2009

The Brotherhood of Grand Lodges (MWGW Carver, MW Hiram and MW Tall Cedar) and their respective OES Grand Chapters (John G. Jones, Bay State, and Miriam) celebrated their first annual Earth Day Event on Saturday, May 2, 2009. The planned activities included the clean-up of Talbot Avenue, Dorchester MA from Blue Hill Avenue to Washington Street, a networking session, and a vendor’s fair. The segment between Blue Hill Avenue and Washington Street is approximately 1 mile. This event was supported by the City of Boston. Mayor Thomas Menino came by the Russell Auditorium on May 3, 2009 and personally congratulated the members and volunteers for their efforts.

There were approximately 120 members and volunteers participating in the activities. Approximately 100 bags of trash were picked up totaling about 1,800 lbs. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to give something back to mother Earth from whence we all came. As the captured photos display, it was a fun day. We welcome you to join us next year, as we continue to show our support for the community in which we live, work, and pray. The next annual event is scheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010.

A special thanks to Ms Freda Brasfield from the Mayor’s Office for her support and PGM Bobby Young for pioneering the event. Also, a thank you to the following steering committee members: G. Master Hubert Tooley MW Hiram Grand Lodge (G. Matron Fanny Williamson, Bay State Grand Chapter); G. Master Jerome Jakes, Sr. MW Tall Cedar Grand Lodge (G. Matron Velma Burton, Miriam Grand Chapter); G. Master Edward Brinson, Sr. MW George Washington Carver Grand Lodge (G. Matron Denise Parkman, John G. Jones Grand Chapter); and PGM Andy Peeples MW Tall Cedar Grand Lodge. May God bless and keep you.
